European Union



The Euopean Union is a supranational organisation. It was created in the 1950s, with the idea of bringing together some old nations in a common endeavour. In the year 2003, 15 nations are European Union members: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

New members will be introduced in 2004

States that will accede to the Union in 2004: Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia.

Candidates for accession in 2007: Bulgaria, Romania

 

Other European countries which aren't members yet:

Albania, Andorra, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Norway, Russia, San Marino, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Vatican City, Serbia and Montenegro.
